Dan Muns begins his fourth year as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Coker College. Muns joined the Coker Athletic Staff in Decemeber 2010 as the Head Coach of the Cobra Women’s Soccer Team. Muns is the seventh coach to lead the Cobra women.
During the 2013 season the Cobras compiled a record of 5-12-1. Lizz Morris earned first team All-SAC honors, while Jordan Roy and Jalynn Fortt both earned honorable mention nods. As a team the women earned their third straight NSCAA Team Academic Award.
In 2012 the Coker women had their winningest season since 2007, falling just one game short of the conference tournament. Coker posted a 4-4-2 record at home, including a 3-1 victory over regionally ranked Clayton State. Senior Sarah Rountree and freshman Jalynn Fortt were both named third team all-conference.
As a team the women earned their second consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award.
The 2011 season was Muns first at the helm of the Coker Women and was one of growth and challenge. The Lady Cobras finished with five one-goal losses. They also played in three overtime matches, going 1-1-1 in those matches. Led by Sarah Rountree, a Conference Carolinas All-Conference performer, along with Sarah Kinsey and Morgan Hartline, both Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference performers in 2011 the Lady Cobras will look to build and improve as they move on to 2012.
Muns came to Coker from Columbus State University where he was the assistant coach for the Cougar women since the program’s inception in 2004. In just seven seasons, Muns helped build the Columbus State program into a NCAA Division II regional and national power. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA National tournament from 2006-2010, including finishing the 2010 season ranked #17 nationally with a record of 19-2-1. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight twice (2007, 2008) finishing the season ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II both years. Along with teo NCAA Southeast Regional Titles, the Cougars appeared in the Regional title match in 2009. The Cougars finished ranked in the Top 20 in the Final National Poll each of the last five years of Muns' tenure there.
A United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “B” License holder, Dan has coached four All-Americans, three Scholar All-Americans, 21 All-Region, six Scholar All-Region, two Freshman of the Year, 29 All-Conference, 19 All-Tournament and three Tournament MVP players during his career. In addition to his USSF License, Dan holds National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Goalkeeping Diplomas I & II. In addition to his college coaching experience, Dan has coached youth soccer for more than 15 years and has served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Calvary Christian School and Brookstone School in Columbus, Ga.
A graduate of Columbus State, Muns holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing his Masters in Public Administration from CSU. He is also a 13-year verteran of the US Army. Muns and his wife Angela have three daughters and a son (Morgan-22, Ashley-20, Harrison-15, Hayden-12) along with two Grandsons (Roman-2 and Blake-7 months).
