Hartsville, S.C. -- Riding a four game skid, the Coker Lady Cobras took to the court against the Anderson Trojans Monday night. A close game to the very end, Anderson walked away with a 59-56 win over the Lady Cobras. Stretching their lead to ten points in the second half, Coker played with confidence, but the Lady Cobras were no match for the Trojans in the final moments.
Led by Alexa Neal (Greensboro, N.C.) the Lady Trojans put up a 38 point second half. Neal had 17 points on the day, along with four rebounds. Maci Siniard (Rome, G.A.) also played a major role for Anderson, scoring 12 points and grabbing four rebounds.
The Cobras were led by Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.) and Lotta Aaltonen (Rauma, Finland) who had 12 points each. Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) led both teams in rebounds with nine.
Both teams were slow to start, with only five points being scored in the first five minutes of play. The level of intensity picked up towards the end of the first, as Coker grabbed a 24-21 lead to end the first half. At the start of the second, Coker came out of the locker room with a renewed intensity, and would eventually push the lead to ten points. Anderson did not back down, and continued to chip away at Coker’s lead. The Lady Cobras’ finally lost the lead in the final three minutes of play and could not regain and sustain it. Coker managed to grab a one point lead twice, but it was quickly taken by Anderson.
Coker falls to 2-11 on the season, and 1-7 in Conference Carolinas play. Anderson improves to 8-5, with a 7-1 record in the conference.
The Lady Cobras’ next time out will be on Monday, January 21, versus Converse College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
