Hartsville, SC- With a thrilling 1-0 victory the #2 seed Coker College Cobras defeated the #5 seed Queens University Royals for the second time in the tournament, to claim the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship.

Game 19- Semi-Final


In the semi-final game, the #5 seed Queens University Royals continued their Cinderella run, as they came from behind to defeat the #1 seed Mount Olive Trojans, 5-2.


Mount Olive went up 2-0 in the first inning thanks to a two run triple from Jamie Pruitt, but that would be all the runs the Trojans would manage. Queens finally got on the board in the fifth inning with four runs on three hits and an error, including a big two out, two run home run from Brittany Harkey. The Royals added an insurance run in the sixth.


Shea Chattee earned the win for Queens, going four innings allowing two runs on three hits with six strike outs.


Jenny Jackson took the loss for Mount Olive took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits, with a strike out.


Harkey led the Royals at the plate going, 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Amanda Bowman and Megan Campbell were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.


For Mount Olive, Pruitt was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while TIffanie Pitttman, Melissa Bright and Allison Czerski each had a hit in the game.


The win advanced Queens to the championship game, where the Royals faced a rematch of Saturday’s game with Coker College.


Game 20- Championship


Allie Bragg’s solo home run in the bottom of the third inning would be all the offense that Coker would need to claim their second CVAC Tournament title in three years, as the Cobras defeated Queens 1-0.


Shelly Catlett earned her second win of the tournament, throwing a complete game shut out, allowing just five hits with four strike outs.


Kristen Gay took the loss for Queens, allowing one run on four hits with four strike outs in five innings of work.


Bragg was 1-for-2 with a home run, RBI and a run scored to lead the Cobras, while Mary Lee Giurintano was 2-for-3 to lead the Royals at the plate.


Coker will now prepare for the South Atlantic Regionals in May.
