HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras men's soccer team offense exploded in a 6-0 rout of Francis Marion University on Saturday night. Junior Eric Stiefield (Eustis, Fla.) scored the opening goal within the first three minutes of play (2:24, unassisted). Stiefield would net a hat trick by the end of the first half.
Stiefield scored again five minutes later (7:59, unassisted) on another unassisted marker to put the Cobras up 2-0. Stiefield added his third goal (21:52, C. Recinos) putting the Cobras up quickly by three goals. Freshman Matt Taylor (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) finished the scoring the first half (35:14, C. Recinos), giving the Cobras a comfortable lead going into the second. Coker's offense did not stop at the end of the half.. Taylor would add his second goal (69:44, N. Tirrkonen) early in the second to reinforce the lead. Still not done, junior Niko Tirkkonen (Hollola, Finland) would finally finish the Cobras scoring (72:10, F. Bedoya) giving Coker the 6-0 victory.
Francis Marion managed five shots and the loss drops the Patriots fall to 0-4 on the season, while Coker improved to 2-1.
Coker's next game will be at Erskine College on September 14, at 7 p.m. Francis Marion will host Mount Olive in their next match on September 13 at home at 4 p.m.
