PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- USC-Aiken defeated Columbus State on the second playoff hole to claim the title at the Outback Steakhouse Inercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament. The event, which was held at the 6,457-yard, par-72 Hombre Golf Club, was hosted by Catawba College and concluded on Tuesday. It marked the seventh straight tournament victory for the Pacers, the 2004 NCAA Division II National Champions.
Aiken trailed Columbus State by three shots entering the final round, but rallied to tie the Cougars at 595 and won on the second playoff hole. Georgia College and State was third, just two shots off the lead and had the low team round on Tuesday with a 294, matching the opening round by Columbus State. John Tillery, of GC&SU, won individual medalist honors on the first playoff hole. He defeated Aiken’s Dane Burkhart and fellow GC&SU teammate Juan Bialet, who all shot 145 for the two rounds. Bialet tied Columbus State’s Christian Ries for the tournament low round of 69 to make the playoff.
