HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Coker College men’s basketball team has been picked seventh in the 2010-11 Conference Carolinas preseason poll. Limestone College is picked to finish first, receiving five first place votes, while Barton College is picked second with three first place votes and Mount Olive College is picked third with two first place votes.

The Cobras have some big shoes to fill this season with the departure of First Team All-Conference and Second Team NABC performer, Mason Ambler. However, with a strong core of returning players, Coach Dan Schmotzer and the Cobras are up to the challenge.

Returning to lead the Cobras are two of their top scorers from last season, seniors Vatrick Thompson and Thomas Wright. Thompson averaged 13.8 points and three rebounds per game last season, while Wright averaged 9.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Also returning are starting point guard, Delonte Doles and starting forward Joselle Bracy. Doles averaged just over eight points per game and Bracy averaged five points per game.

The addition of twelve new faces to the roster should add some depth to the Cobra line-up, while also giving Coach Schmotzer a chance to make a move up the conference standings.

The Cobras open play on Saturday, October 30, with an exhibition game at UNC-Wilmington at 7:30 p.m. Coker’s first regular season game will take place on Wednesday, November 17 at home against Morris College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
