Coker Baseball Cracks Second Regional Poll
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College baseball team is ranked in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. The Cobras come in at No. 10 in the Southeast Region Top 10 poll. It marks the team's second appearance in a regional ranking this season, following a No. 10 ranking by d2baseballnews.com last week.
Pitching has been the key to Coker's hot start, as the staff holds a collective ERA of 3.86 through 13 games. Senior Dan Meyer (1-1, 3.10) and juniors Hunter Ressler (1-1, 4.08) and Andrew Goot (1-0, 4.42) have shouldered the load thus far for the starters. Senior Tyler Witzel (3-0, 2.70) and junior Zach Loraine (1.64, 3 saves) have provided strong support in relief.
The Cobras are currently 10-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. They just completed a three-game sweep of Barton College to open conference play. Senior Tyler Witzel was recently named the conference's pitcher of the week.
Coker's season continues Wednesday with a home contest against UNC Pembroke.
