HARTSVILLE, S.C. – With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, senior Nick Fuoco (Palm Bay, Fla.) belted a three-run double into centerfield to give the Cobras a 7-5 lead and the eventual win over St. Augustine’s College on Thursday afternoon in collegiate baseball.

Junior Matt Bowman (Streator, Ill.) (1-0) earned the win in an inning of relief work. He allowed just one hit. Freshman Chris Garcia (Miami, Fla.) (1) made his first collegiate appearance count as he picked up the save in the ninth.

St. Augustine’s jumped out to an early 3-0 lead scoring a pair of runs in the first and one in the third off starter Sean Tracy (Farmingville, N.Y.). The Cobra finally got on the board in the fourth, taking a 4-3 lead thanks to a three-run double by Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.).

Coker held the lead through the fifth and six, but a pair of unearned runs in the seventh gave the Falcons a 5-4 lead until Fuoco’s double in the eighth put the Cobras back on top.

St. Augustine’s Alex Didip (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits in 7.1 innings of work with eight strikeouts.

Fuoco finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Witzel was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

For the Falcons, Rashad Ingram was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Wayne Lewis was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases and David Nelson was 2-for-3.

The Cobras return to the diamond for a three game series against Chowan University this weekend. They will hit the road for a double-header on Saturday and a single game on Sunday in Murfreesboro, N.C.
