HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College head baseball coach Dave Schmotzer announced Thursday, that long time assistant baseball coach Ray Marrero has been promoted to Head JV and Assistant Baseball coach at Coker College.

“I am ecstatic to have Ray joining us full-time,” said Schmotzer. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program that will help us move to the next level.”

A 2003 graduate of Coker and former player under Schmotzer, Marrero has spent the past two years working full-time in Coker’s Admissions Office and volunteering as a baseball coach. Prior to his time at Coker, Marrero was the volunteer assistant at Florida International University under legendary head coach Turtle Thomas.

Marrero replaces Kyle Rayl, who left Coker after a year as the Head JV and Assistant Baseball coach to become the head coach at Concordia University-Ann Arbor.
