HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras took to the field for the third straight day Tuesday afternoon, their first home game since last Tuesday, against St. Augustine’s College.  Coker was riding a three game skid, in which they were swept by conference rival Mt. Olive this weekend.  The Cobras defeated the Falcons 21-7.  The Cobras improved to 6-4 on the season and St. Augustine’s fell to 0-1.

Coker right-hander Matt Long (Florence, SC) (3-0) picked up his third win of the season, going five innings giving up just five hits, no runs, and registering three strikeouts.  The five shut-out innings lowered Long’s season ERA to 1.50.  St. Augustine’s started right hander Alex Didio, who picked up his first loss of the season, going just three innings.  Didio surrendered seven runs, on six hits, and three walks.  Alex also struck out three.

The Cobras scored in every inning, including a five run seventh inning.  In the seventh Trey Lynch (Florence, SC) had an RBI double and catcher Jessie Crockett (North East, MD) had a two-run home run. 

Coker was led offensively on the day by junior short stop Jordan Buenting (Ankeny, IA) who went 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, and Lynch, who raised his season average to .556, by going 4-for-6 with a grand slam, and six runs batted in. 

St. Augustine’s was led by Rashad Ingram who had a 4-for-5 day at the plate, netting one run batted in and a stolen base.  Joe Pierce went 3-for-5 with a run batted in.  Short stop Chris Vette had two runs batted in on the day.

The Cobras will return to Tom J. New Field for their next game Saturday, as they play St. Andrews in a double header.  The first game is scheduled for noon.
