HARTSVILLE, SC — 12th ranked Augusta State took a 10-3 victory over Coker Thursday in collegiate baseball.  The Cobras committed four errors in the game which led to three unearned runs and gave up 17 hits to the Jaguars.

Two runs scored in the first after an errant throw on a pick off attempt and a second error on a fly ball to the outfield.  CC got one run back in the bottom of the inning, however, when Brian Nally/Highland Heights, OH took a pitch in the back and then scored on a double by senior Conrad Deese/Pageland, SC.

Augusta State led 3-1 after five innings but strung together five hits and used another Cobra error to break the game open with three runs and a 6-1 advantage.  Coker scratched out two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it 7-3 but ASU hit four singles and drew two walks to complete the scoring at 10-3.

Both squads used multiple pitchers on the day with CC going through seven and the Jaguars throwing five.  Junior Larry Morris/Earleville, MD started and pitched three innings, allowing three hits and two unearned runs but took the loss.  Daniel Gwaltney lasted three and a third innings for Augusta St. with three hits allowed and no runs allowed for the win.

Deese went 2-4 on the day with one RBI and Nick Fletcher/Littleton, CO also went 2-4 with a run scored.  Sophomore Ben Davidson/Charleston, SC had two hits and a RBI and Eric Losten/Chesapeake City, MD one hit and a run scored.

ASU’s leadoff man Brandon Sumlin scored three runs and drove in two on three hits and a walk, while All-Region catcher Sam Barth collected three hits, three RBI and a run scored. 

Coker will take on Lenoir-Rhyne for a three-game series at Hickory, NC beginning this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
