Coker College Recognizes Student-Athletes On Academic Success

“Academics always come first,” said Anna Schwark, women’s volleyball. “I truly enjoy being a Cobra student-athlete, and that means that we represent our school with our attitude, sportsmanship and academics.”

“The opportunity that Coker has given me is one that I am grateful for,” said Andrew Morris, a junior men’s basketball player from Melbourne, Australia. “It’s important to me to be well-rounded and have a good standing in the academic community as well as representing my team and the school as best I can.”

“As a student-athlete I think it’s important to uphold the image of the college,” said Dylan Bates, a freshman cross country member who is double majoring in mathematics and computer science. “There’s a standard of etiquette that we have to meet. Being a good student is a big part of that.”

“I am very proud of these students who have attained academic and athletic success,” said professor of Spanish Cathy Cuppett. “To achieve in both areas requires dedication, drive and discipline. These students must be committed 24/7 to their goal of excellence. I have taught several academic/athletic high performers; they are a delight to have as students. Their commitment in the classroom makes me enthusiastic about supporting our athletic program as a faculty mentor Cobra Club Board member and fan."

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College is a proud supporter of its athletic programs. It is our belief that success is first reached in the classroom and then on the field. We envision all of our athletes as strong players academically as well as athletically. The College celebrates the achievements of the 30 student-athletes who were recognized on the Dean’s List as well as the 90 who were recognized by Conference Carolinas.

“I am proud of our student-athletes’ dedication in the classroom and on the court and field of play,” athletic director Lynn Griffin said. “They are representatives of the type of student-athletes that our coaches are recruiting to study and compete at Coker. They demonstrate what the true meaning of student-athlete is.”

The Coker College Dean's List was established by the College faculty to honor students who earn a GPA of 3.75 or higher for 12 semester hours of coursework. The Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have earned a 3.20 GPA for the semester and includes freshman and transfer student-athletes that have participated in either a conference or non-conference sponsored sport.

The Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll is awarded twice a year covering each of the fall and spring academic semesters and is based on meeting the criteria at the end of the previous semester.

Conference Carolinas is a premier NCAA Division II athletics conference made up of 12 schools from North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. These institutions consist of: Barton College, Belmont Abbey College, Coker College, Converse College, Erskine College, King College, Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, North Greenville University, Pfeiffer University and Queens University of Charlotte.
