Coker Bring Home a Win Over Emory and Henry
Kayia Sabur and Kate Halcro lead the Cobras to their second conference win of the year.
Emory, VA: Coker comes home with a road win against Emory and Henry. Kaiya Sabur and Kate Halcro scored 4 apiece to help the Cobras take a 12-10 win over the Wasps.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1ST PERIOD:
- The Cobras come out hot to start the game with Mia MacMillan scoring the first goal of the game. After being fouled in the circle, MacMillan was given a free position shot that she scored with ease, putting the Cobras up early in this one.
- The Wasps didn't back down, however, as they scored two goals back to back to take the lead halfway through the first period.
- Kaiya Sabur came to life shortly after the Wasps took the lead. Sabur finished out the first period with a brace. Amanda Arguello had the ball behind the cage. She found Sabur in open space as Sabur sent the ball into the far post of the goal to claw the Cobras back even.
- For her second goal, Kaiya Sabur glided past 2 defenders before sliding the ball past the keeper to give the Cobras the lead going into the 2nd period.
2ND PERIOD:
- The Wasps came out of the break hot as they tied the game up shortly after the 2nd period started.
- Leah Corley put her name on the scoresheet almost a minute later from a Madeline Fontana assist.
- Once again, the Wasps clawed a goal back to tie this game up in the 3rd minute of the period.
- The Cobras closed out this period with Mia MacMillan in the role of conductor.
- Kaiya Sabur finished her hat-trick with 10 minutes left to play in the 2nd period from a Mia MacMillan assist. MacMillan sent the ball in Sabur's way before Kaiya sent a long shot into the bottom corner of the cage to give the Cobras a 5-4 lead.
- With all goalscoring, Kate Halcro wanted to join in on the fun. After picking up a ground ball off a failed clear by the wasps. Halcro and MacMillan had a give-and-go in front of the 8-yard line as Halcro scored her first goal, giving the Cobras a 2-goal cushion over the wasps.
3RD PERIOD:
- The Cobras came out striking after the halftime break.
- Kaiya Sabur found her 4TH GOAL of the day after a MacMillan assist to get the Cobras started in the 3rd period.
- MacMillan found the net just moments later to score her second goal of the day with an unassisted goal. After juking her defender not once or twice but 3 times, MacMillan ran around the cage to dispatch her shot into the far corner, giving the Cobras a 4 goal lead.
- Madeline Fontana joined the long list of goal scorers for the Cobras after she earned a free position shot that she scored just after the 4th minute of play in the 3rd period.
- To end the 5-goal run the Cobras went on between the 2nd and 3rd period, Kate Halcro put her name on the scoresheet once again. After sending her first attempt high of the cage. Kate Halcro was given another attempt off of a Mia MacMillan pass that she sent over the keeper's head to score her 2nd goal of the contest.
- To finish out the scoring in the 3rd period, Kate Halcro won a free position shot that she took full advantage of as she put the Cobras up 11-5..
4TH PERIOD:
- The Cobras slowed down the scoring on slot in the 4th period as Kate Halcro was the only cobra to score.
- Kate Halcro finished out the scoring for the Cobras in this game as she made a cutting run across the cage and scored her 4th goal with an overhead shot into the top left corner of the cage to give the Cobras their 12th goal of the contest.
- The Final score to this game was 12-10 in favor of the Cobras.
NOTABLES:
- Kate Halcro reclaimed her spot as the best goal scorer in the SAC after this game, as she has 55 goals on the season.
- Mia MacMillan still leads the conference in both assists (40) and points (76).
- Olivia Schmidt now leads the SAC in total saves (140) and save percentage (48.8%).
