Coker Hangs On For Victory at Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - It wasn't easy, but the fourth-ranked Coker women's basketball team got past Fayetteville State 58-49 on Saturday afternoon inside Capel Arena in a non-conference showdown.

With her first rebounds of the game, junior Kamari Thompson became the fifth player in Coker WBB history to reach 700 career rebounds. She finished the game with 12 boards and sits in fifth-place on Coker's career list with 711.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Fayetteville State held an 11-8 advantage after the first quarter as both teams struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Coker responded in the second, outscoring the Broncos 19-9 and taking a 27-20 lead into halftime.
The opening half featured five ties and two lead changes before the Cobras closed with a decisive 9-2 run, sparked by a three-pointer from Shawnteanna Tillman and four points from Janey Legagneur.
Coker carried that momentum into the third quarter, racing out to a 20-point lead at 46-26 and heading into the final period with a 46-29 cushion.
Fayetteville State mounted a late rally, trimming the deficit to 53-48 inside the final minute, but the Cobras held firm down the stretch to secure the victory.
