Alford's Grand Slam and 6 RBI Night Not Enough in Loss to Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -  Luke Alford drove in six runs, highlighted by a grand slam, but the Coker University baseball team came up short in an 11-9 loss to visiting Anderson in the series opener Friday night at Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium.

Alford's grand slam—his sixth home run of the season—came in the fourth inning and gave the Cobras a 7-6 lead. The junior outfielder continued his big night at the plate in the eighth inning, delivering a two-run double to finish with a game-high six RBIs.

• Luke Alford had two hits, both for extra bases to mark his ninth multi-hit game of the season.  

• Alford drove in a career-high six runs and blasted his sixth home run of the season, a grand slam, and the 10th of his career.

• Matthew Lipcsey recorded three hits for his 10th multi-hit game of the season and his fifth in the last six outings.

• Xander Davis also pitched 2.0 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts.
