Coker Drops mid-week Game to Newberry
Coker falls to Newberry
Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Baseball Team dropped their mid-week game to Newberry despite an early lead.
Coker and Newberry began the game toe to toe, with no runs scored until the bottom of the fifth inning. Jaylen Mack, a junior from Lumberton, NC, was able to score home on a passed ball and took the Cobras up by one run. Newberry was unable to answer as Coker racked another run in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jaylen Mack scoring once again. This put the Cobras up 2-0 in heading into the eighth inning. Cameron Ferrell brought in the third run for Coker with a double from Kody Hanna. Despite an early lead by the Cobras, Newberry rung up three runs in the top of the ninth inning, bringing both teams to a standstill at 3-3. Unfortunately, Coker was unable to score again and fell short as Newberry brought in a final two runs, finishing the game at 5-3.
Of the 35 at bats, Coker claimed nine hits and two RBI's. Kody Hanna and Jaylen Mack both registered a double for the night. Cameron Ferrell, Nick Leonard, Landon Reeves, and Adam Wilkerson all collected a stolen base.
Lawson Otte (25), Britton Adams (11), and Zach Hinson (6) pitched against a total of 46 batters. Lawson Otte, who pitched seven innings, three 47 strikes out of 86 pitches while Britton Adams threw 31 out of 44 and Zach Hinson threw 10 out of 18.
The Cobras will be retuning to the field on Wednesday (March 22nd) against USC Aiken. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00 PM. Live stats and streaming will be available at www.cokercobras.com
