Women’s Track & Field Breaks School Record at USC Invitational
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Coker University women's track and field team delivered a historic performance at the 2026 USC Invitational, highlighted by a school-record breaking effort in the 4x400-meter relay and multiple personal best performances across sprint, field, and relay events.
The quartet of Sydney Watson, Jimena Sierra, Alejandra Alonso, and Patience Lisbon made history in the women's 4x400-meter relay, clocking a school-record time of 3:58.39 to finish second overall. The record-setting performance marked a major milestone for the program and showcased the team's continued growth throughout the indoor season.
Lisbon also contributed individually, competing in the 60-meter hurdles and posting a time of 9.27 seconds in preliminary action. Meanwhile, sophomoreDiamond Bailey led Coker's efforts in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, recording times of 8.21 seconds and 27.23 seconds, respectively. Freshman Larissa Thames followed closely behind in both events, finishing the 60-meter dash in 8.42 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.26 seconds.
In the field events, Josie Carter recorded a strong showing in the long jump, finishing with a mark of 4.86 meters, while teammate Massassi Maxwell-Smith added a jump of 4.72 meters. Junior Reece Sherwin delivered one of the team's top field performances, placing eighth in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 8.94 meters. Teammate Anna Luzzi also contributed in the event with a throw of 8.90 meters.
Sherwin also competed in the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 8.87 meters, while Luzzi posted a throw of 9.82 meters. These performances highlighted the continued progress of Coker's throwing group.
Overall, the historic relay performance, combined with strong individual showings and personal best marks, reflected the team's momentum as they continued through the indoor season.
