Tennis finishes up the Coker Invitational.
FLORENECE, SC: The Cobras had a good weekend out at the courts this week in the Coker Invitational. The Cobras had 4 top 3 finishes between the Singles and Doubles Brackets.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ilona Sanches: She went 2-3 on the weekend. In Doubles, she was paired up with Noelle D'Angelillo. The pair went 1-1, taking home 3rd place after they lost their opener to Anderson University. In the 3rd place match, the Cobras were forced to go to a tie-breaker against Newberry, where the Cobras came out on top 7-2. Ilona won her 3rd match in doubles in a dominant 6-0,6-1 win over Maria Gento of Anderson. Sanches took 7th place in Flight A of Singles and 3rd place in Flight A of Doubles.
- Salomé Sierra: She went 3-2 on the weekend. In Doubles, she was paired up with Caroline Myers, and they won their first match against FMU before failing in the final against Newberry 1-6. In Singles, Sierra dropped her opening match in a tie-breaker. Sierra then defeated Maria Gento of Anderson to get into the 5th-place match-up against Andrea Gonzalea of Anderson. Sierra won this match with a big comeback after dropping the first set 3-6. She followed that up with a dominant 2nd set with a 6-0 win and a dominant tie-breaker, winning it 10-5. Sierra took 5th place in Flight A of Singles and 2nd place in Flight B of Doubles.
- Noelle D'Angelillo: She went 3-2 on the weekend. She took 3rd place in Doubles with teammate Ilona Sanchez. Then, in singles, she won her first match of Singles in an explosive 6-2,6-2 win over Anerson University. In the second round of singles, she played the first set close, having to win in a 7-2 tie-breaker before taking the second set 6-2 to book her spot in the final. She took 3rd place in doubles in Flight A and 2nd in singles in Flight B.
- Caroline Myers: She went 1-4 on the weekend. She won on the weekend in the first round of Doubles with teammate Salomé Sierra. Even though she didn't get the wins in Singles, she did play her opponents close in all of her matches.
- Alejandra Cardenas: She went 2-3 on the weekend. She took 4th place in doubles. In singles, she won her first match 6-2,6-2, completely overpowering her opponent from Newberry. She lost in her second match, sending her into the 3rd place match. She got back to winning ways in her 3rd-place match with a 6-1,6-4 win over FMU. She took 3rd in Singles Flight C and 4th in doubles Flight C.
- Rachel Grove: She went 0-5 on the weekend.
WHAT'S NEXT?
They will be competing at the ITA Fall Regionals in Sumter, SC. This will take place on September 26th, starting at 8:00 AM.
