Brody Switzer Takes 4th Place at the Southeast Open
The Cobras started their season on the Road against some tough competition.
Salem, VA: Coker traveled to the Southeast Open hosted by Virginia Tech and Roanoke College, facing some tough competition, mostly consisting of NCAA Division 1 teams.
PERFORMANCES:
IN THE OPEN BRACKET:
- Stephen Spitko | 133 | 0-2 | Stephen went 0-2 in the Open Bracket, losing both matches in a close decision against Southeastern University and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
- Austin Collins | 157 | 0-2 | Austin went 0-2 in the Open Bracket. He lost his first match by technical fall (17-2) against Franklin and Marshall and his second match by fall against Ohio University
- Matthew Williams | 174 | 0-2 | Austin went 0-2 in the Open Bracket; he lost both matches by Technical Fall. First against the University of North Carolina (15-0) and the second against Franklin and Marshall (16-1).
IN THE FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE BRAKET:
- Mason Moody | 125 | 1-2 | Mason lost in the RD of 32 against Noke Wrestling RTC by a decision of 10-4. He bounced back in the round of 16 of the consolation bracket, winning 6-2 against Presbyterian College. His tournament ended in the RD of 8 after losing by Fall to Appalachian State.
- Frank Bianco | 141 | 2-2 | Frank lost in the RD of 32 by fall against the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. He followed up his loss with back-to-back wins in the round of 16 by decision against Ohio University (11-9) and Gardner-Webb University (12-5). His tournament ended in a major decision against Ohio University (11-0)
- James Gonzalez | 149 | 1-2 | James lost in the RD of 32 in a 5-0 decision against Wyoming SEM. In the RD of 16 in the consolation bracket, he won by major decision 12-1 against Presbyterian College. His tournament ended in a major decision, 8-0 against Franklin and Marshall.
- Obed Don | 165 | 0-2 | Obed lost in the RD of 16 against Davidson in a major decision (17-2). In the RD of 16 consolation, he lost by a fall against the Great Neck Wrestling Club to end his tournament.
- Benjamin Newton | 184 | 1-2 | Benjamin won in the RD of 16 against UH by a sudden victory decision 7-4. In the quarterfinals, he lost by decision 8-1 to Noke Wrestling RTC. Then, in the RD of 8 in the consolation bracket, he lost by fall against Presbyterian College.
- Brody Switzer | 197 | 2-2 | Brody won in the RD of 16 against West Virginia University by decision 7-3. In the Quarter-Finals, he defeated Gardner-Webb University by decision 5-4. He fell in the semi-finals against Davidson by decision 5-1. Then, in the 3r- place match, he lost by a major decision 17-5 against the Citadel.
- Garrett Tyre | 285 | Garrett won in the RD of 16 by decision 10-6 against Presbyterian College. In the quarter-finals, he lost by fall against the University of North Carolina. In the Consolation round of 8, he won 1-0 against the University of Maryland. Then his tournament ended in the consolation round of 4 due to a forfeit.
What's Next:
The Cobras will be on the road next as they take on the Pembroke Open on Sunday, November 9th. This will be an all-day event hosted by UNC Pembroke.
