HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra men's basketball team was nearly unstoppable as they rolled past the Anderson Trojans, 80-65, in their South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday (Jan. 10).
The Cobras hit 54.2 percent of their shots from the floor and 42.1 percent from three-point range. They also out rebounded the Trojans 33-23 and converted 12 Trojan turnovers into 18 points.
Coker led from start to finish, with Anderson getting within one point, 21-20 with 10 minutes left in the first half. However, a lay-up by Roman Hall thirty seconds later put the Cobras up by three and they never looked back. The score remained close through the rest of the first half, with the Cobras taking a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
The second half belonged to the Cobras, as they poured in 45 more points on 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) shooting from the field and they cruised to an 80-65 victory.
Errick Bethel led all scorers with 21 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc. Donte Samuels followed close behind with 19 points and six rebounds, and Trey Marshall added 18 points and five assists. Jalen Watson fell just short of a double-double with eight points and 10 boards.
