HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University Overwatch team swept its two matches during the Tespa Overwatch preseason on Sunday (Oct. 6).
Coker took on University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Stevens Institute of Technology in the second week of the Tespa Overwatch preseason. The first match was against Minnesota and the match started on Lijiang Tower, and Twin Cities came out swinging to take the first round. Coker was able to come back and take the next two rounds to win the map. The second map was Numbani, and Minnesota was on the attack first. They were able to push through all three points but it took their entire time bank in order to do so. It was then Coker's turn to attack and they were also able to get all three points but kept 3:22 left on the clock. This means that all Coker has to do is get one tick on the first point to win the map, which they were able to do on the first push to win the match 2-0.
The second match of the day was against Stevens Institute of Technology and the first map was once again Lijiang Tower. Stevens and Coker traded the point back and forth for the entire map, but Stevens was the one who was able to get the upper hand in a close fight. Stevens won the first round 100% to 94% and the second round 100% to 99%. After this close map, the Cobras chose to go to King's Row and Stevens went on the attack first. They were able to push through the entire map, but Coker was able to waste their entire time leaving them with 00:00 on the clock. Next up Coker was right at the finish line when Dustin Brown landed a shatter on over half of Steven's team which allowed Coker to finish with 1:10 left on the clock. Because they had over a minute left, this means that only Coker has a second shot but they only have a little over a minute to do so. Stevens was able to stop the Cobras on their first push, but Coker was able to quickly regroup and use the last remaining second to get control of the point and win the map. Stevens chose Dorado for the third and final map. Coker was able to stop Stevens right at the first choke point, not allowing a single point. All Coker had to do was match Stevens to win the match but SIT was able to hold for two of the four minutes before Coker finally broke through their defenses. With this push Coker was able to win the match 2-1.
These two wins put Coker at 2-2 and they will return next Sunday to face off against two other teams with the same record. The action can be followed at www.twitch.tv/cokeresports and at www.twitter.com/cokeresports.
