Cobras Take Down Mars Hill In Semis, Fall In Championship To Limestone
Coker falls in Conference Carolinas Championship Sunday afternoon following win over Mars Hill.
BRISTOL, TN. - Coker downed Mars Hill Saturday evening to set up a matchup of the top two overall seeds in the Conference Carolinas Championship on Saturday. The Cobras eventually fell to #8 nationally ranked Limestone in the final.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Semi-Finals vs. Mars Hill:
Coker jumped out to an early four point lead following the compulsory round Saturday evening against Mars Hill. The Cobras put together scores of 8.725, 9.575, 9.400, and 6.375 for a total score of 34.075 in the opening heat.
Mars Hill responded in the acro heat, gaining two points back to be within one of Coker following the first two events. The two teams then swapped wins as Coker took the pyramid heat and Mars Hill the toss to set up a great finish.
In the tumbling event, Coker began to dominate. Over the course of 6 heats within the tumbling portion, Coker outscores the Lions 48.175 to 45.475, extending their lead. Coker then beat Mars Hill in the team event 72.830 to 64.390 to officially eliminate the Lions by a final score of 232.180 to 219.640. This set up a rematch for the Cobras with Limestone, as the two teams are both nationally ranked, and are one and two in the conference standings.
Finals vs. Limestone:
Coker battled Limestone early Sunday night. In the compulsory event, Limestone edged Coker by less than a point, 35.800 to 34.850. Coker quickly responded in the acro event, putting together a three score round of 9.500, 9.150, and 9.00 to beat the Saints 27.650 to 27.125.
Limestone then began to build a slight lead. After Coker outscored Limestone in the inversion pyramid 9.425 to 9.350, Limestone took the last two heats to win the event 28.950 to 28.800. The Saints then built on that momentum and outscored Coker by a little over one point in the toss event.
In the tumbling portion, Limestone took a firm grasp on the meet. The Saints were able to slightly edge the Cobras in all six heats, to extend their lead. Coker put together a score of 69.940 in the team event, but it wasn't enough to catch the Saints lead, falling 244.230 to 233.890 in the conference finals.
