Coker Announces 2016-17 Fall Sports Schedules
Take a look at the 2016 schedules for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and women's volleyball.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra fall sports schedules have been released for the 2016-17 athletic season. The Coker women's soccer, men's soccer, women's volleyball and men's and women's cross country teams will each kick-off their 2016 campaigns during the first week of September.
The women's soccer team will begin its 14-match schedule on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Converse College to take on the Valkyries. The Cobras will debut at the friendly confines of the Coker Athletic Field just two days later when they battle the Knights of St. Andrews University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Navy and Gold will open South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 14 4:30 p.m. when they host the Anderson University Trojans. After a brief three-match road trip, the Cobras will open October by hosting Mars Hill University on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m. Coker will then close the season with a six-game stint of three home matches and three away matches, four of which against teams ranked in the top-ten in the final 2015 southeast regional rankings.
The Coker men's and women's cross country teams will kick off the 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 2 when they travel to the Eye Opener meet in Spartanburg, S.C. After back-to-back trips to Division I meets, the Navy and Gold travel to the Newberry SAC Preview on Saturday, Sept. 24. A trip to the Royal Challenge (Oct. 7) will close out the regular season, then the Cobras will begin postseason action with the SAC Championship on Oct. 22 and the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Nov. 5.
The Coker women's volleyball team also kicks its season off on Friday, Sept. 2 when they travel to the Running Eagle Classic in Marietta, Ga. The Cobras will then return home for their 2016-17 opening week on Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday Sept. 9. They host Anderson in SAC play at 6 p.m. on Friday and Chowan and Converse at 3 and 7 p.m. in non-conference play. The Navy and Gold's schedule is highlighted by a five-game homestand spanning from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1. They will face Carson-Newman (Sept. 23), Lincoln Memorial (Sept. 24), Newberry (Sept. 27), Brevard (Sept. 30) and Lenoir-Rhyne (Oct. 1) in that stint.
The Coker men's soccer team is slated for a 16-match schedule, which begins with a road matchup against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. The Cobras open the 2016 home schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when they host Chowan University at 5 p.m. After opening SAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 14 against Anderson University, the Navy and Gold go on a four-match road trip from Sept 17-27. The Cobras will play eight matches in the month of October, seven of which are in-conference matchups, including matchups against 2015 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Wingate University (10/5) and Carson-Newman University (10/29).
The Cobras head into their fourth season in the South Atlantic Conference.
