Coker Twelfth in Volleyball Preseason Poll
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team was voted No. 12 in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced today.
Coker is coming off its first playoff appearance in five years, reaching the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals in 2012. However, this season begins a pair of firsts for the Cobras – their first season under head coach Allison Stack and their first season competing in the SAC.
The Cobras return five seniors in 2013, including Taylor Willis, who led the team in blocks last year with 318. The other seniors are Katie McElveen, Mindy Morris, Kelly Stine and Hannah Vadakin. Also returning for Coker are junior Samantha Celek and sophomore Loren Hill. In addition, Stack's team has seven new players – six freshmen and one junior transfer.
Coker's season begins Sept. 6 at the Emmanuel College Tournament. The home – and conference – opener is Sept. 13 against Anderson University.
Wingate took the top spot in the coaches' poll with 121 overall points and 11 first-place votes. Tusculum was second with 109 points and one first-place vote. The entire preseason poll is as follows:
