Banner Elk, NC- The Coker College women’s tennis team took on Lees – McRae College this weekend up in Banner Elk North Carolina. The Lady Cobras needed another victory to take them a step closer to making the end of season conference tournament.

The match started well as the Cobras came out strong in doubles. Konopa and Schaum bought home the first victory for the Cobras with an easy 8-0 win over Payne and Scherill. The number one doubles pair of Santos and Smith followed shortly with another easy victory 8-1. The victories came rolling in for the Cobras as Spencer and Davis added another doubles victory 8-2.

With the Cobras up 3-0 after doubles with comfortable wins it seemed inevitable that the victory would soon be secured. The first singles win came from Cassidy Spencer as she continued her run of good form beating Simpson 6-1, 6-1. Spencer played great tennis during her match easily moving her opponent around the court using her backhand. Neely Davis was next in to secure the victory again with a comfortable win 6-0, 6-1. Davis has been playing solid throughout the year and is playing some of her best tennis for the Lady Cobras. The remaining afternoon saw total domination by the Cobras as they took all the remaining matches easily. This is an excellent confidence booster for the team and it should put them even closer to the conference tournament.

The Cobras next match is this coming Saturday at 11am against Limestone College.
