HARTSVILLE, S. C. – Freshman Lizz Morris (Stillwater, N.Y.) had another solid match between the goal posts as the Cobra women's soccer team took on the Lander University Bearcats in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon. Morris made 15 saves, but the Cobras fell to the Bearcats 5-0.
The Cobras could not find an opening offensively and managing just one shot on the Bearcat goalkeepers.
Lander was led by senior Christina Barbour (Mooresville, N.C.) who had a goal (67:30, C. Black) and a helper. The Bearcats jumped to an early lead off the foot of junior Jamie Shaw (Columbia, S.C.) (13:51, C. Barbour) followed by another strike ten minutes later from freshman Kimberly Kesler (23:12, unassisted). Leading 2-0 into the half, Lander regrouped and would score three more times in the second. Barbour's goal led the scoring in the second half, followed by junior Casi Jones (West Columbia, S.C.) (83:48, L. MacDonald) and freshman Miranda Barker (Thomson, Ga.) (85:17, unassisted).
The Cobras' next game will be at home on September 9, against Valdosta State at 4 p.m., while Lander is slated to play Erskine at home on September 7, at 4:30 pm.
