Coker Women in Seventh After Opening Round of Newberry Invite

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Coker women's golf team finished the first round of play at the Newberry College Invitational in seventh place at the par 74 Moss Creek Golf Club.

Armstrong Atlantic leads the field with a score of 311 (+15), followed by Lander University in second at 324 (+28) and host Newberry College in third at 330 (+34). The Cobras trail fellow Conference  Carolinas team Pfeiffer University in sixth place by 10 strokes, while Coker leads Queens University of Charlotte and Limestone College in eighth and ninth place respectively.

Individually, Mallory Thompkins (Georgetown, S.C.) leads the Cobras with a first round 85. Sara Allen (Fort Mill, S.C.) fired an 88 in the opening round and Caroline Dula (Salisbury, N.C.) shot a 91. Krista Thorpe (Bracebridge, Ontario) shot a 92 and Bobbi McKenzie (McBee, S.C.) carded a 96.

The Cobras will complete the second round of the Newberry Invitational on Monday starting at 9:30 a.m. Fans can follow all the action online with live scoring through Golf Stat.
