HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 33 nationally ranked Coker College men's tennis team had four members selected as all-conference performers by the South Atlantic Conference, it was announced today.
Andre Staab and Tom Sizeland led the way, as both were tabbed first-team singles selections. Staab also picked up a first-team doubles selection with partner James Corfield. Rounding out the selections for the Cobras was William Marrafao, who was selected as an honorable mention singles player.
Staab, the Conference Carolinas freshman of the year and first team all-conference selection in 2013, went 13-3 overall at No. 1 singles en route to a 10-1 conference mark in 2014. He is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation and No. 4 regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
A sophomore business administration major, Staab hails from Aschaffenburg, Germany. He is the son of Martina and Frank Staab.
Corfield, a Conference Carolinas second team selection in 2013, partnered with Staab to compile an overall doubles record of 11-5 at the No. 1 position and 10-1 in conference play this season. The duo currently ranks No. 8 regionally according to the ITA.
Corfield, a senior from Aukland, New Zealand, is a communication major. He is the son of Lorraine and Gary Corfield.
Sizeland, a Conference Carolinas third team all-conference selection in 2013, posted a 14-2 overall record and 10-1 mark in SAC play at No. 2 singles this year. His season was highlighted by a 13-match winning streak that lasted from Feb. 22-Apr. 10.
Hailing from Hamilton, New Zealand, Sizeland is a biology major with a pre-medical concentration. He is the son of Wilma and Peter Sizeland.
Marrafao, also a Conference Carolinas second team selection in 2013, finished the regular season 11-5 overall at No. 3 singles and 9-2 in conference play in 2014. Marrafao also partnered with Sizeland at No. 2 doubles and finished the regular season 7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference.
Marrafao is from Jundiai, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is a computer science major. He is the son of Claudinei and Marlene Marrafao.
