HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's tennis player Andre Staab has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Rookie of the Year.
Staab, the Cobras' No. 1 singles player, went 15-5 this season during the regular season. He is currently No. 32 in the country in singles, which is the first time a Coker tennis player has been nationally ranked. Staab is also ranked No. 12 in the Southeast region. In addition to his singles record, Staab also posted an 11-9 mark with partner George Handy, a sophomore.
This is the second individual award for Staab this season. He was named the Conference Carolinas freshman of the year in April. Staab was a first-team all-conference selection as well.
Staab, a native of Aschaffenburg, Germany, is a business administration major at Coker. He is the son of Frank and Martina Staab.
The Coker men's tennis team went 18-5 overall and 10-0 in conference play, winning the regular-season title. The Cobras reached the finals of the conference tournament but fell to Limestone College, 5-2.
