VASS, N.C. – The Coker men fired their lowest round of the 2011 Conference Carolinas Men’s Golf Championship in the third and final round on Tuesday, 296 (+8). The low round gave the Cobras the boost they needed to take home second place honors in the tournament. The Cobras finished 10 strokes behind champion Queens University and six strokes ahead of Barton College in third place.

Junior Diego Polo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) was the Cobras leading golfer as he brought home third place honors after shooting a 76 (+4) in the third round. Jake Murphy (Hamilton, N.J.) earned a Top 5 finish thanks to a third round 73 (+1) and Ben Conroy (Durham, Conn.) carded a Top 20 finish scoring a 75 (+3) on Tuesday. Josh Clay (Stark County, Ohio) and Jared Crane (Greenville, S.C.) both came in with Top 35 finishes. Clay shot a 77 (+5) while Crane was the low scorer of the day for the Cobras with an even par 72.

Both Polo and Murphy earned All-Tournament Team honors thanks to their outstanding performances on the links during the three day event.

Coker will now wait to see if they can earn an at-large bid to the Southeast Region Tournament May 2-4 in Deland, Fla. During the 2010-11 season the Cobras finished in the Top 10 in seven of their 10 tournaments including two tournament championships and a pair of second place finishes.
