Coker Baseball Splits Double-Header with Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The Coker baseball team went 1-1 in a SAC double-header verse Wingate on Saturday (Feb. 8) at Ron Christopher Field.

The Cobras took game one of the day after Dustin Russell broke the 1-1 tie by hitting a single to the shortstop to drive in Ernie Kirkwood.  Coker would then add a security run after Jarren Donato drove in T.J. Giczkowski on a fielders choice to make it 3-1 in the top of the eighth.  The defense then took care of the rest by shutting out the Bulldogs for the remaining two innings.

Matt Prosser (2-0) would get the win after pitching a complete game.  In nine innings, Prosser only allowed five hits, one run and struck out five batters.

In game number two of the double-header, the Cobras had a 5-3 advantage in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on and one out.  Eric Serre would then step up to the plate for the Bulldogs and hit a walk-off homer to drive in 3 RBI's to capture a 6-5 win.

Ben Brown (1-1) would be charged with the loss after giving up five hits and six runs in 6.1 innings of work.

Coker will return home on Wednesday (Feb. 12) to host Claflin.  The first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
