Meyer Named NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College baseball player Dan Meyer has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast pitcher of the week. Meyer is the second-straight Cobra to earn this honor. Junior Andrew Goot received the award last week.

Meyer, a lefty, threw a four-hit, complete-game shutout against Erskine College last week. He scattered four hits while striking out seven to earn his fifth win. The victory locked up the No. 2 seed for the Cobras in the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament. Meyer also appeared in a win over St. Andrews, tossing one scoreless inning.

In addition to the NCWBA honor, Meyer was the Conference Carolinas pitcher of the week for his efforts against Erskine and St. Andrews.

For the season, Meyer is 5-3 with a 3.42 ERA. He has 64 strikeouts – good for fourth-best in the conference – over a team-high 76 1-3 innings.

A senior from Seaford, N.Y., Meyer is a physical education and sport studies major with a concentration in exercise science. He is the son of Carl and Eileen Meyer.

Coker defeated Pfeiffer University in the opening round of the conference tournament on Thursday. The Cobras take on King College at 7 p.m. today.
