HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker baseball team will play host to the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers in a three-game series on Saturday (Feb. 16) and Sunday (Feb. 17). Live coverage of the games will be available online at www.cokercobras.com.
This will be the first meeting between the Cobras and the Battlers since 2010. Alderson-Broaddus won that game 11-10 at Coker.
Coker is coming off a three-game set against Anderson University. The Cobras went 1-2 versus the Trojans, picking up an 8-6 win in game two. Fico Kondla and Zach Loraine have been the offensive leaders so far this season. Kondla is batting .429 with four doubles and eight RBIs, while Loraine is batting .423 with three doubles, two triples, a home run and 11 RBIs.
Dan Meyer (1-1), Hunter Ressler (1-1) and Andrew Goot (1-0) are the likely starting pitchers for the Cobras. Meyer has 14 strikeouts in 15 and a third innings of work with a 2.35 ERA. Ressler has thrown 10 and two-thirds innings, earning a 2.53 ERA with five Ks and Goot has thrown 12 innings, allowing 14 hits with six strikeouts. Loraine and Tyler Witzel will be the pitchers to go to in the bullpen. Loriane has nine Ks in seven innings with just two walks, while Witzel has seven strikeouts in nine innings on the hill.
Alderson-Broaddus is making their first appearance of the spring. The Battlers were 29-24 in 2012; seniors Sean Collette and Bobby McLaughlin and junior Jeff Conley lead them. Collette and Conley were named to the Division II Atlantic Region Preseason All-American team, while McLaughlin was named a Player to Watch by Collegiate Baseball.
The Cobras and the Battlers will play a double-header starting at noon on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, also starting at noon.
