ANDERSON, S.C. – Coker picked a 3-1 win in the third and final game of the Cobras three-game weekend series with Anderson University on Sunday afternoon thanks to a spectacular pitching performance from sophomore Tyler Witzel (Melbourne, Fla.).
Witzel was a force to be reckoned with on the mound as he tossed a complete game in the Cobras victory, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine Trojan batters in the process.
Along with Witzel’s dominance on the mound, Coker picked up several key hits to secure the win.
Senior Matt Ammons (Chester, S.C.) had another solid day at the plate going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored; he was the only Cobra with multiple hits. Dyson Coker (Turbeville, S.C.), Fico Kondla (Miami, Fla.) and Rob Quattrock (Holtsville, N.Y.) each drove in one of Coker’s runs in the win.
The Cobras will not get much time off before their next game, as they return to the field on Tuesday to face Claflin University at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
