Hartsville, SC-  The Coker College baseball team used a big seventh inning to battle back and take game one of the Conference Carolinas doubleheader, while St. Andrews pitcher T.J. Chrusch no hit the Cobras to help take game two by a score of 4-0.

Game 1

In game number one, the Cobras fell behind early thanks to a four run first inning from the visiting Knights of St. Andrews.  The Cobras came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first as Kyle Walker (Centralia, IL) scored on a single to left field by Nate Donovan (Charlotte, NC). 

St. Andrews scored another run in the second inning on an error by Coker, but that was the last runs they would score until the seventh as pitcher Brad Boob (Charlotte, NC) kept the St. Andrews batter’s off balance.  The Cobras kept close by putting single runs up on the board in the third and fourth innings.

In the seventh inning, St. Andrews padded their lead with more run, but that proved to be the last time they would have the lead.  Julio Gomez (Santa Fe, NM) started the scoring off by scoring Walker on a base hit to left field to cute the lead to two.  With Gomez on first and  Donavan on third, Scott Amann (New Athens, IL) doubled to left center to tie the game at six.  A single through the left side by Karl Ankersen (Mt. Pleasant, SC) gave the Cobras the lead for good.

Justin Collier (Laurens, SC) came in relief for Boob and gave up only one run to pick up the save, while securing the win for Boob.

Leading the way for the Knights at the plate was Michael Eastwood going 4-5, while Charles Weber and Eric Stone has two hits apiece. 

For the Cobras,  Walker was 3-for-4 and  Gomez and  Ankersen two hits each.

Game 2  

In game number two, the Cobras were unable to bang out as hit as St. Andrews hurler T.J. Chrusch pitched a complete game no to lead his knights to a 4-0 victory.  On the day Chrusch had six strikeouts while only allowing one walk and only two Cobra base runners.

St. Andrews took control early as they put up two runs in the first frame while adding one run in both the second and third inning.  Then the bats settled down and Chrusch did the rest.  Cobra starter Jesse Hatchell (Florence, SC) took the loss for the Cobras allowing four runs on seven hits.    

St. Andrews and Coker will finish their three games series tomorrow at Tom J. New field with first pitch set for 2pm.
