Murfeesboro, NC- The Cobra Baseball Team dropped their first series of the season and their third straight game with a 22-11 loss to Chowan University on Sunday. Coker falls to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

 

Coker jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the second inning, but Chowan wouldn’t be kept down long, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second and another three runs in the third. Coker would add three more runs of their own in the fifth, cutting the Hawks lead to just three at 10-7. Another Cobra run in the top of the seventh made it 10-8, but then the flood gates would open as Chowan poured on 12 runs over the next two innings. Coker finished the game with three runs in the ninth, but it was just not enough.

 

Coker’s Matt Conyers (0-1) took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits in three innings of work. Relieve pitchers Seth Weinberg, Mikael Owens, Kyle Strickland and Karl Ankersen, gave up a combined 12 runs on 12 hits win five innings of work.

 

At the plate for the Cobras, Brantley Bell was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Julio Gomez was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Alex Arango was also 2-for-4 on the day with three runs scored and Brian Johanson was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

 

The Cobras take the field against Presbyterian College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Clinton, SC.
