Florence, SC- Junior third baseman Rich Janofsky drove home Casey Cullen with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to lift second-ranked Georgia College & State University to a 2-1 victory over Coker College on the second day of the inaugural Peach Belt/CVAC Baseball Challenge, hosted by Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.


GC&SU (7-2) managed only six hits off Coker starter Brad Boob (1-2), while three Bobcat hurlers scattered 10 Cobras hits. Coker left eight runners on base and hit into two double plays.


GC&SU reliever Michael Newman (1-0) picked up the win, while Jayson Bennett got the last out with two runners on base to earn his second save of 2006.


The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after shortstop Mike DeVeaux doubled home Justin Mills. Coker knotted the score in the fifth frame when Brian Nally stroked an RBI double to left center field.


Left fielder Brandon Anderson, GC&SU’s leadoff batter, went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base.


Ryan Schaeffer and Brooks Urquhart both collected two hits to lead Coker (4-3-1), with Urquhart scored the Cobras’ lone run.
