HARTSVILLE, S.C. – King College earned their first ever Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament Championship with a 4-1 win over North Greenville University on Sunday.
The Tornado and the Crusaders each scored a run in the opening frame. The score remained deadlocked through the fourth inning, until King plated three runs in the top of fifth to make it 4-1. Capping off the three-run inning was a two-run homer by Christina Melcher.
Hannah Light was named the tournament MVP with her fourth complete game victory of the tournament. She went seven innings allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
Melcher finished the day 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored, while Cora Milliken was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Aubree Hunt also drove in a run for the Tornado.
Rachel Glazebrook was the Crusaders leading hitter with a pair of hits. Kansas Wofford drove in North Greenville’s lone run of the game. Glazebrook suffered the loss in the circle. She scattered eight hits over seven innings allowing four runs and striking out 10.
With the win King advances to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament May 4-6 as the Conference Carolinas automatic qualifier.
