2013 Taste of Coker

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. Women’s Soccer

  • This week’s matches:
    • Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. (A)- USC Aiken
    • Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (H)- Lincoln Memorial
  • Last week’s matches:
    • UNC Pembroke (L) – 2-1
    • Lander (L) – 1-0 (2OT)
  • The Cobra women will take on their third consecutive opponent from the Peach Belt Conference on Tuesday when they travel to USC Aiken. Then the women will return home to face their first South Atlantic Conference foe of the season, Lincoln Memorial University, on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer

  • This week’s matches:
    • Monday at 7:30 p.m. (A)- Clayton St. @ Clayton St. Tournament
    • Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (H)- Lincoln Memorial
  • Last week’s matches:
    • #20 Tampa (L) – 4-0
  • The Coker men will play their final match of the Clayton State Tournament against the host Clayton State on Monday. They will then return home for their first home and South Atlantic Conference match of the season against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. 

Women’s Volleyball

  • This week’s matches:
    • Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (A)- Barton
    • Friday at 7:00 p.m. (H)- Anderson
    • Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (H)- Newberry
  • Last week’s matches:
    • Northwood (W) – 3-0
    • Emmanuel (L) – 3-0
    • Milligan (L) – 3-0
    • Paine (W) – 3-0
    • Point (W) – 3-1
  • The women’s volleyball team opened the season by going 3-2 at the Battle at the Springs Tournament at Emmanuel College last week. Taylor Willis earned all-tournament honors with 51 kills, 11 service aces, three blocks and a .269 hitting percentage in five matches. This week the Cobras will travel to Barton College on Wednesday and then return home for a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches on Friday (Anderson) and Saturday (Newberry).

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

  • This week’s meet:
    • Saturday at Montreat Invitational in Black Mountain, N.C.
  • Last week’s meet:
    • Catawba Invitational – women – 4 of 6, men – 2 of 5
  • Hannah Cook set a new Coker 5k record with a time of 19:02 and won the Catawba Invitational last week. Her record setting time helped lead the Cobra women to a fourth place team finish. On the men’s side, Dylan Bates and Tom Sizeland finished first and second respectively in the 8k race and helped lead the men’s team to a second place finish. This week the Cobras will head to Black Mountain, N.C. to run in the Montreat Invitational.

Men’s & Women’s Golf

  • This week’s tournament:
    • Monday - Tuesday at Smoky Mountain Invitational in Sevierville, Tenn.
  • This week the men's and women's golf teams hit the road for their first tournaments of the 2013-14 season. Under the direction of new head coach Danny Allen, the Cobras will tee-off against 18 teams from around the southeast. Included in the field are South Atlantic Conference opponents Tusculum, Carson-Newman, Newberry, Wingate, Catawba and Lincoln Memorial.
