Spotlight
The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete
at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a
different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with

Men’s Soccer
- Last week’s matches:
- Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals- Queens (L)
– 2-1
- The men’s soccer season came to an end last week. The
Cobras finished the year going 12-4-1 overall and 8-1-1 in
conference. They won the Conference Carolinas regular season title
for the second consecutive year and placed seven players on the
All-Conference teams. Paul Leese was named conference coach of the
year, Niko Tirkkonen was named player of the year and James Sweeney
was named defensive player of the year. Carlos Recinos, Fernando
Bedoya and Akeem Prendes were named First Team All-Conference along
with Tirkkonen and Sweeney, while Alan Cuevas and Daniel Jackson
were named Third Team All-Conference.
Women’s Volleyball
- This week’s matches:
- Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (A) – North Greenville –
Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals
- Last week’s matches:
- Belmont Abbey (L) – 3-0
- Emmanuel (L) – 3-1
- Converse (W) – 3-2
- The women’s volleyball team closed out the regular season
portion of their schedule last week with a 3-2 win over Converse.
The victory gave the Cobras the No. 3 seed in the East Division and
punched their ticket to the conference tournament for the first
time in five years. The Cobras will take on the No. 2 seed from the
West Division, North Greenville, in the quarterfinals of the
conference tournament on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Men’s & Women’s Cross
Country
- Last week’s meet:
- NCAA Southeast Regional – Women- 27th, Men
– 23rd
- The cross country teams completed their season last week at the
NCAA Southeast Regional Meet. Josh Peterson led the men, placing
43rd overall with a time of 33:34, while Naomi Watson
was the leader for the women at 27:01.
Men’s Golf
- Last week’s tournament:
- Matt Dyes Invitational- 4 of 8
- Last week the nationally ranked No. 8 Cobra men’s golf
team completed their fall season with a fourth place finish at the
Matt Dyes Invitational. In their four fall tournaments the Cobras
did not finish below fifth.
Women’s Basketball
- This week’s games:
- Friday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Carson-Newman – SAC/Conf.
Carolinas Challenge @ Lincoln Memorial Univ.
- Saturday at 6:00 p.m. (A) – Lincoln Memorial - SAC/Conf.
Carolinas Challenge @ Lincoln Memorial Univ.
- This week the Cobra women will open the regular season portion
of their schedule at the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge at
Lincoln Memorial University. Coker will take on two future SAC
opponents, Carson-Newman (Friday) and Lincoln Memorial
(Saturday).
Men’s Basketball
- After a tough 71-65 loss to Division I Campbell, the Cobra men
will have another week off before beginning their regular season
schedule on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Limestone College.
