Cobra Spotlight- Fernando Bedoya, Men's Soccer
The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Fernando Bedoya, a member of the men’s soccer team.
Name: Fernando Bedoya
Sport: Men’s Soccer
Position: Center Back
Hometown: Miami Beach, FL
Major: Sports Management
Why did you choose Coker? I got addicted to the Cookout milkshakes on my recruit visit so I had to come back for more.
What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Becoming an All-American my freshman year; and defeating the women’s Basketball team in a pickup basketball game.
What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Getting my first ‘A’ in college, never thought that would be possible growing up. Seeing the little kids and elderly happy while helping out in the community was truly priceless as well.
Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? I would play golf, simply because I am in Dan Schmotzer’s golf class. Schmotzer is helping me elevate my game and become a beast in golf just like himself. Not to mention golf doesn’t involve much running, which is what I was going for.
Favorite class: Lifetime Activities/Fitness.
Favorite professor: It’s a tie between Suzanne Parker and the Schmotzer brothers.
Plans after graduation: To become a professional soccer player or to be a member of a professional team’s staff.
Favorite movie: If it makes me laugh it’s probably my favorite. EX: Rush Hour
Favorite type of music: I’ll dance and sing to pretty much anything I hear.
Favorite food: Spaghetti/Fettuccine Alfredo.
Favorite sports team: Miami Heat and Real Madrid.
Favorite color: To this day I still don’t know the name of it, but it has blue and purple in it…blurple?
Favorite TV show: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Most prized possession: The first pair of soccer cleats I ever laced up to play. (1995)
What is something people may not know about you? I am not from Mexico.
Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? Ferny. My family gave it to me as a kid and it just never ever left. It came with me everywhere I went and still does.
One word that describes you: Sooooo…. Awesome!!
