Cobra Spotlight- Dylan Bates, Men's Cross Country

The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Dylan Bates, a member of the men's cross country team.

Name: Dylan Bates

Sport: Men’s cross country

Position: Runner?

Why did you choose Coker? My coach found me through a recruiting website, and encouraged me to fly down for a visit. I really liked the team and campus, and decided to come here.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Winning an NCAA race at our first meet this season.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Casino Night with the Computer Science & Math Club.

Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? Lacrosse. I played for five years when I was younger.

Favorite class: Anything math. I liked Point Set Topology. It sounds intimidating, and it is. There were only two students in the class by the end of the semester.

Favorite professor: Dr. Paul Dostert

Plans after graduation: I want to go to grad school and eventually receive my Ph.D.

Favorite movie: Pacific Rim

Favorite type of music: Classic rock.

Favorite food: PRIME RIB! This one restaurant in Canada is 90 percent of the reason I go home during the breaks.

Favorite sports team: Coker Cobras! I don’t really watch sports (no TV).

Favorite color: Blue

Favorite TV show: I don’t have a TV. But if I did it would be MythBusters

Most prized possession: The medal I received for crossing the finish line at the World Championships for triathlon.

What is something people may not know about you? I started doing triathlons and Tae Kwon Do before I was 7. Since then I have gone to the World Championships for triathlon and achieved my 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? Red Cap, because of the red hat that I’m always wearing.

One word that describes you: Adorable. Or Dedicated.
