The "Cobra Spotlight" is a weekly highlight of a student-athlete at Coker College. Each week we take a different athlete from a different sport and display some facets to get more familiar with them. This week we take a look at Andre Staab, Martin Moncayo, Jessi Campos & Kyria Borelli, members of the men's & women's tennis teams.

Year: Sophomore

Major: Business administration

Why did you choose Coker? I liked coach Simpson and Coker’s campus and environment.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Winning the Conference Carolinas regular-season championship with the team last year is the most memorable moment.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Once, a little kid came up to me and said he wants to play as good as me when he’s older. I told him, he’ll be better.

Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? Definitely soccer – I’ve played it for 10 years.

Favorite class: Can’t tell you one yet, it’s still too early in the semester.

Favorite professor: Dr. Foster

Plans after graduation: Good question

Favorite movie: I have a lot of them. The latest one, I really liked, was The Great Gatsby.

Favorite type of music: I like pretty much everything, from Electro to Rap. 

Favorite food: Pasta and Steak

Favorite sports team: FC Bayern Munich

Favorite color: Blue

Favorite TV show: Two and a Half Men (The older episodes with Charlie)

Most prized possession: Family and friends – I really appreciate their support!

Why did you choose Coker? I chose Coker because of the weather and the tennis program.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? Best athletic related memory has to be when we won the Conference Carolinas regular season tennis championship against Mount Olive last year.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? I don’t have one in particular.

Plans after graduation: To pursue a master’s degree in healthcare business

What is something people may not know about you? The city that I live in is exactly in the middle of the world.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? Monkey, and it is because of my last name, I assume.

Major: Physical education and sport studies with a concentration in physical fitness programming.

Why did you choose Coker? Because Coker was the only school that gave me the opportunity to play my two favorite sports on the collegiate level.

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? When the men’s team won the regular season conference championship last year.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? Going to the Cobra Den with teammates and friends.

Name: Kyria Mariam Barros Borelli

Sport: Tennis

Position: Freshman

Hometown: Poio, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain

Year: Freshman

Major: Biology

Why did you choose Coker? Coker was the first of four American colleges to show interest and contact me. I ended up choosing Coker because it was small, I liked the tennis team and most importantly there was Zumba!!!

What is your best memory at Coker (athletic related)? My best memory athletically would be all the evening training sessions with my teammates to improve our game.

What is your best memory at Coker (non-athletic related)? I have so many good memories. One of my favorites would be the Foam Dance Party because I met new people, danced and had fun.  

Which athletic team would you play on at Coker other than your own? I would play women’s basketball or lacrosse.

Favorite class: Chemistry, because it is really easy and I enjoy the class when I understand everything.

Favorite professor: Dr. Joe Flaherty

Plans after graduation:  I would like to eventually become a doctor and live in California, Florida, Australia, New Zealand or South America if it gets better. 

Favorite movie: I don’t have a favorite movie, but I love scary movies and the ones about teenage love.

Favorite type of music: Pop music

Favorite food: My grandma’s food

Favorite sports team: Real Madrid, of course.

Favorite color: I don’t have a favorite color; it would be unfair for the other colors.

Favorite TV show: Aliados

Most prized possession: My secret diary

What is something people may not know about you? I was born in Venezuela, moved to Spain, but I am Italian too.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it? I did not have a nickname until I got to Coker. A few teammates call me Kitty Kat. They say it is because my name sounds like KitKat, but it makes no sense to me though.

One word that describes you: Nervous
